HYDERABAD: Stating that income certificate of family is a must to avail fee reimbursement, the state government on Thursday reiterated its commitment to weed out malpractices by college managements that have been exploiting the scholarship and tuition fee reimbursement schemes.
Panchayat raj minister Botsa Satyanarayana dismissed media reports which stated that government was determined to cut the number of scholarship and tuition fee beneficiaries as it was unable to cope up with the financial burden.
The minister said the Rosaiah government was keen to support the education needs of every genuine student and was determined to ensure that benefits reach only the deserving poor students.
Botsa said tehsildars have been issued instructions to adhere to the new format prescribed by the nine-member Group of Ministers (GoM) for issuing income certificates. "A family income certificate will be compulsory for students keen to make use of the government benefit. In case tehsildars are found misusing authority, government will not hesitate to initiate departmental action against them," he said.
Botsa said henceforth all scholarships would be released only after due verification, based on the recommendations of the GoM formed to streamline disbursal of scholarships and tuition fees. "All beneficiaries will be put online and their names are up for scrutiny. Fee will be directly credited into the accounts of the respective student every quarter only if he has the unique identification number that will be issued at the time of admission," he observed.
The post-matric scholarships and fee reimbursement scheme are being extended to SC, ST, BC, minority and EBC students whose annual family income does not exceed Rs 1 lakh.
He said student beneficiaries can avail of the tuition fee reimbursement and scholarship only if they have the mandatory 75% attendance in an academic year and only if they are promoted, that too in the convenor quota and not management quota. He said the GoM recommendation of having a financial ceiling of Rs 20,000 for self-finance courses was justified.
